Spots are available on a first come-first served basis!
Evaluation sheets must be submitted for each service project
by the candidate in order to receive credit.

the Confirmation candidate to complete Evaluation Forms and

  Community Outreach Projects


Building Bright Futures

 BBF meets every Tuesday (starting 9/2) during the school year in the Family Life Center to provide a meal and tutoring.  Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve supper for approximately 40 kids.  Kitchen helpers are needed from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. (the kids arrive around 5:15 p.m.)  Also, individual tutors are needed to work with students in grades K-8 from 6:00 –  7:15 p.m.  Tutors must commit for the school year. Look for information in the church bulletin about an organizational meeting in August.

Christmas Giving Tree and Giving Table 

The opportunity to assist the poor during the Christmas season is offered to our parish through the Giving Tree and Table. The time commitment will be variable. Help is needed in several ways:

  • Provide and set up the tree by November 29.

  • Help cut out, label and place the ornaments on the tree on a weekly
    basis.

  • Help organize and deliver gifts by December 22.

Coffee and Donut Welcome/Fellowship   

Coffee and Donut Fellowships are held approximately once per month. Specific dates will be established on Sundays where all parishioners, and especially newcomers, will gather for coffee and donuts after Mass (usually after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Mass). A schedule will be available in August and signups available at class.

Dress for Success   

The third weekend of every month, women's professional clothing is collected for the local Dress for Success program.  A clothing rack is placed in the church vestibule and items are gathered after each Mass and delivered the next week to the Dress for Success boutique. Volunteers are needed to help with collection and delivery.

Flower Ministry

The altar flowers and special decorations at Christ the King are coordinated on a volunteer basis. Help is especially needed during Advent and for the Easter Vigil.

Garden Angels

Helpers are needed to support our Garden Angels ministry. Workdays are set up throughout the year to help weed, clean up, mulch, plant and care for our church grounds.

Honduras Mission

Many volunteer opportunities are available to assist with the Mission ranging from collecting, washing and sorting eye glasses to counting pills. The Mission dates for 2009 are tentatively scheduled for June 13-22.  For general information, contact the Director, Sandee Haslauer, 225-6774 Ext 282. Specific project coordinators are listed below:

     Pill Counting sessions are held on Saturdays throughout the year

    Warehouse Workdays are scheduled from September to January. Call for
    potential summer hours. The warehouse is located at 4300 West 65th Street.

Knights of Columbus Suppers


Several Knights of Columbus suppers are scheduled throughout the year (usually in the Fall and during Lent).  Helpers are needed to set up, serve and clean up.

MOMS Pantry
M.O.M.S. (Ministry of Mother's Sharing) holds a food drive each month following each Mass.  On the second weekend of the month, grocery sacks are distributed with lists. The third weekend, a collection is held in the main church vestibule and food is loaded into the church van. On Monday morning, food is delivered to local charitable agencies. Volunteers are needed to help hand out sacks, collect and deliver food.

PRE/PRE Pre-school/VBS 2009  (2008 is FULL!)  

Volunteers are needed to help assist in the K-8th grade classrooms during the Parish Religious Education program each Sunday morning.  Vacation Bible School 2008 is tentatively scheduled for the second week of June.

The annual parish celebration with auction, Rexfest Run and carnival will be held the weekend of May 1-3, 2009. Many volunteer opportunities will be available.

S.P.E.C. Special Persons Encounter Christ

Volunteers are needed to help assist in the S.P.E.C. classes held during the 12:15 p.m. Mass.  Classes are held in the nursery and are designed for students with special needs such as mental or physical disabilities.

Sharefest 2008

Christ the King Church will be participating in a community service project called ShareFest in November (date to be announced) doing various service projects which will include light construction, yard work, cleaning, painting, etc. The Saturday workday will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A blood drive and food collection will be held in conjunction with ShareFest.

Abba House
1014 South Oak Street


Volunteers are needed during the summer to assist with Vacation Bible School for area children.  Sessions are also scheduled to make rosaries.  The sisters distribute food to the neighborhood year round and can use help packing. During the Christmas and Easter seasons, the nuns need help to assemble “goodie bags” for their prison ministry.  Also, help is needed to decorate Abba House (including their tree) for the holidays.  During Christmas break, the nuns welcome those who would like to assist them in visiting shut-ins to provide food and companionship.

Camp Aldersgate

Camp Aldersgate offers a summer program for handicapped children. On Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., they have a fishing derby. Volunteers are needed to help the children bait their hooks and reel in their fish. Possible dates include:  July 9, 16th and 23rd.  Spaces are limited and signup sheets will be available at class.

Good Shepherd Ecumenical Retirement Center and Rehab
2701 Aldersgate Rd

The residents of Good Shepherd greatly enjoy having company come in and assist them with various arts and crafts projects or to provide entertainment (music, reading, etc.)  Weekend hours are available from 9-11:30 a.m. and 2-4:00 p.m. Additional times are available, but all volunteer activities must be scheduled in advance and a commitment made prior to the publication of the monthly calendar. Please Note:  It is important once a commitment is made, to follow through.

Helping Hand

Help is needed to organize the Helping Hand food and clothing storage rooms.  Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the third Saturday of each month.  Arrangements may be made for special summer hours or weekends during the school year.

Our House Cooks 

A team of approximately 25 people are needed to prepare and serve food to the 80 residents of Our House on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.  Cooks must commit to a minimum of 6 months.

Potluck

Summer workdays are available to work in the warehouse assembling care packages for delivery.   Potluck has also started a new program called "Care to Share" in order to provide food to children during the summer months. This would be a great opportunity to help prepare and serve a meal directly to those in need. A parent coordinator is needed to help organize teams!

Rice Depot

 Summer workdays are available to work in the warehouse.  Also, volunteers are needed during the holiday season to assemble gift baskets sold to benefit the Rice Depot programs. They are also in need of help putting together food for their Backpack Program and Seniors Delivery.
