Purpose:
Preparation for each sacrament is like sowing seeds.
Christ the King's
Confirmation program is designed to provide candidates
with all that is needed
so that the seeds will grow to their potential. Our
in-depth program is comprised
of three components: Knowledge,
Spiritual Formation and Service. One
is
built upon the other - so that at the time of
Confirmation in the Spring of 2008,
our confirmandi will be prepared to assume their roles as
fully-initiated Catholics
in the Church.
Knowledge:
Knowledge
of the sacrament of Confirmation is provided through
the religion curriculum in the school
and Parish Religious Education (P.R.E.)
programs during the 7th and 8th
grade. The 7th grade religion program is an
in-depth study of the sacrament itself,
and the 8th grade religion program
focuses on the role of the Holy Spirit.
Participation in the school or P.R.E.
program is a requirement to be
confirmed.
Formation:
This aspect builds upon the
knowledge provided through the
religion curriculum. Spiritual
formation begins in the 8th grade and is focused
on "how does the Sacrament of
Confirmation make an impact on my life?"
It is during the Formation Program that
the confirmandi are challenged to
deepen their spiritual relationship
with Jesus Christ. This is accomplished in
a variety of ways, but primarily
through faithful attendance at Mass each
weekend, prayer, scripture reflection,
community building and personal
sharing.
Service:
The
purpose of the service program is to instill a desire and a
sense of responsibility to be servants to the
Church and the community.
Through selected service activities, candidates
are called to identify, develop
and use their gifts and talents for the service
of others. The service
requirement is to be completed during the 7th and 8th
grade.

Candidate
Formation Sessions:
There will be a total of 14 mandatory Formation
Sessions. Generally, these
are held on alternating Sunday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. These
sessions are conducted in small groups or general assembly
format.

Parent
and Sponsor Sessions:
Parent and sponsor sessions are held in the CTK Ministries
Building, 2nd Floor,
at the same time that the small groups are meeting in the Family
Life Center.
While attendance for parents is voluntary, this is a great way
to become a part of your child's religious education and
establish the importance of this
sacrament. The adult sessions cover the same topics and material
for
reflection as are discussed with the candidates. On those
evenings when the
candidates meet as a general assembly, parents and sponsors are
invited to
attend the general session.

Selecting
a Sponsor:
Each candidate is required to have a sponsor.
Ideally, the sponsor should
be one of the candidate's godparents, emphasizing the unity
between the
sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. According to Canon Law,
parents may not be
sponsors to
their own children. A sponsor must be: a practicing Catholic;
already confirmed; and 16 years of age or older.
